The path most travelled: Mining road usage patterns from massive call data
نویسندگان
چکیده
Rapid urbanization places increasing stress on already burdened transportation systems, resulting in delays and poor levels of service. Billions of spatiotemporal call detail records (CDRs) collected from mobile devices create new opportunities to quantify and solve these problems. However, there is a need for tools to map new data onto existing transportation infrastructure. In this work, we propose a system that leverages this data to identify patterns in road usage. First, we develop an algorithm to mine billions of calls and learn location transition probabilities of callers. These transition probabilities are then upscaled with demographic data to estimate origin-destination (OD) flows of residents between any two intersections of a city. Next, we implement a distributed incremental traffic assignment algorithm to route these flows on road networks and estimate congestion and level of service for each roadway. From this assignment, we construct a bipartite usage network by connecting census tracts to the roads used by their inhabitants. Comparing the topologies of the physical road network and bipartite usage network allows us to classify each road’s role in a city’s transportation network and detect causes of local bottlenecks. Finally, we demonstrate an interactive, webbased visualization platform that allows researchers, policymakers, and drivers to explore road congestion and usage in a new dimension. To demonstrate the flexibility of this system, we perform these analyses in multiple cities across ∗Corresponding author the globe with diverse geographical and sociodemographic qualities. This platform provides a foundation to build congestion mitigation solutions and generate new insights into urban mobility.

Exploring the Relationships between Spatial and Demographic Parameters and Urban Water Consumption in Esfahan Using Association Rule Mining
In recent years, Iran has faced serious water scarcity and excessive use of water resources. Therefore, exploring the pattern of urban water consumption and the relationships between geographic and demographic parameters and water usage is an important requirement for effective management of water resources. In this study, association rule mining has been used to analyze the data of municipal w...

One of the most famous methods for recommendation is user-based Collaborative Filtering (CF). This system compares active user’s items rating with historical rating records of other users to find similar users and recommending items which seems interesting to these similar users and have not been rated by the active user. As a way of computing recommendations, the ultimate goal of the user-ba...
متن کاملMethod for Extracting Valuable Common Structures from Heterogeneous Rooted and Labeled Tree Data
The most commonly adopted approach to find valuable information from tree data is to extract frequently occurring subtree patterns. Because mining frequent tree patterns has a wide range of applications such as XML mining, web usage mining, bioinformatics, and network multicast routing, many algorithms have been recently proposed to find the patterns. However, existing tree mining algorithms su...

متن کاملTraveling Path Recommendation Using Temporal Transit Patterns
In this work, we aim to collectively recommend traveling paths by leveraging the check-in data through mining the moving behaviors of users. We call such traveling paths as Temporal Transit Patterns (TTP), which capture the representative traveling behaviors over consecutive locations, from the big check-in data. To achieve such goal, we propose a novel Temporal Transit Pattern Mining method (T...
